Every General Manager and Dealer Principal wants their team to reach and maintain maximum productivity. This task is delegated to the dealership’s Sales Managers, Service Managers – all department managers in fact. Regardless of your position in the company hierarchy, your ability to work efficiently is the key to success in your role. Use these small tricks to become a more efficient worker, and achieve your KPIs.
Eat the frog
The key to reaching high levels of performance and productivity is to develop a habit of tackling your major task first thing each morning. Your ability to develop this into a routine, to select your most important task at each moment will see you running circles around your colleagues. Starting that task and getting it done in the morning will ensure you complete it both quickly and well. An old saying is that “if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that that is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long.” Your will procrastinate most about your ‘frog,’ so try to resist the temptation to start with easier task, like emails. Chew gum for added focus
Chewing without eating seems like such a ridiculous habit. It turns out there’s an excellent rationale for this long-standing cultural habit: Gum is an effective booster of mental performance, conferring all sorts of benefits without any side effects. The clarity boost comes from chewing, which refreshes us for the task at hand. The effect usually lasts for about 20 minutes, so save it for when you really need to concentrate on a task. You might also find that you snack less, but be mindful of distracting to those around you – chew quietly.
Setting goals
KPIs, incentives and bonuses are quite common in the automotive industry. If your position entails performance indicators, ensure that each week you are identifying those things that you can do that will have the greatest positive impact on your KPIs. Set goals for the week and reflect on whether you achieved those goals at the end of your week. If your overall KPI is focused on dollars generated, what activity can you do differently or better than last week that is going to get you closer to achieving that target?
If you can implement these three tips into your working week, you’ll be well on your way to maximum productivity, smashing targets and achieving those KPIs with ease.
