Autosports Group to Acquire Three Sydney Dealerships from Grand Motors Group

Autosports Group has announced an agreement to acquire three Sydney dealerships from Grand Motors Group, expanding its Mercedes-Benz representation and adding a Chery dealership to its Australian retail portfolio.

The Autosports Group acquisition, announced on 6 November 2026, includes Mercedes-Benz Parramatta, Mercedes-Benz Castle Hill and Chery Castle Hill.

The transaction will be undertaken through Autosports Group’s wholly owned subsidiary, New Centenary Pty Ltd, with completion targeted for February 2027, subject to the satisfaction of required conditions.

The acquisition strengthens the ASX-listed retailer’s presence across Western Sydney and the Hills District, two important automotive retail markets.

Autosports Group Acquisition: Three Sydney Dealerships

The proposed transaction involves three dealerships currently operated by Grand Motors Group:

  • Mercedes-Benz Parramatta – an established luxury automotive dealership serving Western Sydney.
  • Mercedes-Benz Castle Hill – expanding Autosports Group’s Mercedes-Benz presence in the Hills District.
  • Chery Castle Hill – adding representation of the growing Chinese automotive brand to the transaction.

The dealerships will form part of the Autosports Group portfolio following completion of the acquisition.

The agreement involves operating dealership businesses rather than an acquisition of the Mercedes-Benz or Chery brands themselves.

Financial terms, including the acquisition consideration, were not disclosed in the announcement.

Strengthening the Mercedes-Benz Relationship

Autosports Group CEO Nick Pagent said the acquisition would deepen the company’s relationship with Mercedes-Benz, expand its customer base and strengthen its presence across Western Sydney and the Hills District.

The group already represents Mercedes-Benz through other Australian dealerships, making the addition of Parramatta and Castle Hill a further expansion of an existing manufacturer relationship.

Autosports has pursued an acquisition-led growth strategy alongside the development of new dealerships and facilities.

The company has expanded through metropolitan markets in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory.

Its luxury and prestige portfolio includes several established European automotive manufacturers, supported by sales, servicing, parts and associated retail operations.

Chery Castle Hill Adds Another Dimension

The inclusion of Chery Castle Hill is another notable aspect of the transaction.

While the two Mercedes-Benz dealerships strengthen Autosports Group’s luxury retail operations, Chery provides representation in a different part of the new-vehicle market.

Chinese automotive manufacturers have been expanding rapidly across Australia, introducing new models and competing across an increasing number of passenger vehicle and SUV segments.

Chery has been part of that expansion, developing its Australian dealership representation and broadening its product range.

For Autosports Group, the acquisition offers an opportunity to participate in this growth through an existing dealership operation.

The combination of Mercedes-Benz and Chery also illustrates how large automotive retail groups can represent manufacturers operating at different price points and market positions.

Autosports Group Continues Expanding

The proposed Autosports Group acquisition follows a period of substantial growth for the company.

During 2026, Autosports completed its acquisition of Solitaire Automotive Group in South Australia, adding several prestige and luxury automotive brands to its portfolio.

It has also expanded its presence in the Australian Capital Territory and continued investing in dealership facilities across other markets.

Acquisitions provide established automotive groups with opportunities to increase their geographic coverage, deepen manufacturer relationships and expand their existing customer bases.

They can also create opportunities to coordinate operations across sales, service, parts, administration and management.

However, the operational arrangements for the three Grand Motors Group dealerships following completion have not yet been announced.

What Does the Acquisition Mean for Australia’s Automotive Industry?

The agreement reflects continued consolidation within Australia’s automotive retail sector.

Large dealership groups are expanding through acquisitions, while manufacturers increasingly rely on established retail partners with the facilities, financial resources and management expertise required to support their brands.

For Mercedes-Benz, the transaction would place two additional Sydney dealerships within an established luxury automotive retail group.

For Chery, the deal would see its Castle Hill operation become part of a larger dealership organisation.

The acquisition also reflects the increasingly diverse manufacturer portfolios being assembled by Australian automotive retail groups.

Scale, geographic coverage and manufacturer relationships are becoming increasingly important considerations as competition intensifies across the new-vehicle market.

Completion Expected in February 2027

Autosports Group expects the acquisition to be completed in February 2027, subject to outstanding conditions.

These include approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Until completion, the transaction remains a proposed acquisition rather than a finalised transfer of ownership.

The announcement does not establish any changes to existing dealership employees, customer arrangements or operating structures.

The addition of Mercedes-Benz Parramatta, Mercedes-Benz Castle Hill and Chery Castle Hill would further strengthen Autosports Group’s position in Sydney’s automotive retail market.
