BYD is targeting more than 150 Australian dealerships by the end of 2026, as Chinese automotive brands expand the sales, service and parts networks supporting their growing customer bases.
With more than 120 dealer locations already established, BYD is extending its reach further into regional Australia.
The company reports having delivered more than 150,000 vehicles in Australia since late 2022, increasing the importance of accessible servicing, technical support and replacement parts.
Expansion across several brands
BYD’s plans form part of a broader expansion by Chinese manufacturers across Australia.
Chery has opened its 100th Australian dealership, partnering with Eagers Automotive at Indooroopilly in Brisbane.
XPENG is targeting 66 combined dealership and service locations across six states and territories by December 2026. This figure includes both sales and service facilities.
Denza is adding 17 authorised service points through selected BYD dealerships, extending service access into regional Australia.
These investments are increasing the physical presence of newer brands beyond metropolitan showrooms.
Parts and aftersales become a priority
BYD reports more than $25 million in locally held parts inventory, alongside the expansion of its dealer network.
Other Chinese manufacturers are also investing in warehousing, technical support and aftersales capability as their Australian vehicle populations grow.
For customers, the ownership experience extends well beyond the initial purchase. Access to servicing and parts can influence confidence in a brand, particularly for buyers living outside major cities.
A changing competitive landscape
Established automotive brands have long benefited from extensive dealership networks and familiar local service operations.
Newer entrants are working to build comparable coverage, adding another dimension to competition already shaped by pricing, equipment and new model launches.
The expansion also puts greater emphasis on the people needed to support those networks, including technicians, service advisors, parts specialists and dealership managers.
Chinese brands are building the infrastructure to compete for customers throughout the ownership cycle, long after the keys are handed over.
The expansion comes as Chinese manufacturers continue gaining market share, with the October 2026 Australian new vehicle sales results showing BYD, MG, GWM, Geely and Chery among Australia’s 10 best-selling brands.
