Tata Motors and Iveco join forces to create a global commercial vehicle heavyweight

The Tata Motors Iveco acquisition has brought together two major commercial vehicle manufacturers, creating a combined enterprise ranked fourth globally among commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Tata Motors completed the initial settlement of its acquisition on 30 October 2026, securing a controlling 89.42% stake in Iveco Group. The companies formally outlined their combined operations on 3 November 2026.

Tata Motors Iveco: The Combined Business in Numbers

The scale of the enterprise includes:

  • Approximately €21 billion in annual revenue
  • Around 590,000 vehicles sold annually
  • More than 73,000 employees
  • Operations spanning over 130 countries
  • More than 9,300 sales and service locations

The combined Tata Motors Iveco business also operates 27 manufacturing facilities and 25 research and development centres worldwide. This provides extensive industrial and engineering capabilities across commercial vehicles, powertrains and transport technology.

These figures highlight the manufacturing, distribution and customer support footprint of the combined operations.

Continuity for Iveco customers and dealers

Iveco will retain its existing brands, Turin headquarters and industrial operations.

Customer contracts, dealer relationships, warranties and aftermarket commitments will continue unchanged, providing continuity for customers and the businesses supporting them.

The ownership change therefore brings significant global scale while preserving Iveco’s established identity and commitments.

What it means for Australia

For Australia’s commercial vehicle industry, the acquisition is a significant ownership development involving an established local truck brand.

The longer-term opportunities include collaboration across engineering, powertrains, technology, sourcing and distribution.

How those opportunities translate into Australian products and operations will become clearer over time. The immediate focus remains continuity for customers, dealers and service providers as Iveco becomes part of the wider Tata Motors business.

The ownership change follows other major developments across the automotive retail sector, including the recent Eagers Automotive 2026 trading update, which highlighted the increasing importance of international operations to major automotive groups.
